Bangladesh’s readymade garment (RMG) industry now boasts 160 green facilities that have been certified by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) as having the highest LEED accreditation in the world. According to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), the country now has 48 platinum green factories, 98 gold,  10 silver and another 4 LEED certified factory buildings. More than 500 garment factories are waiting for   the LEED certification from the USGBC.

Furthermore, media reports suggest that Sharmin Apparels Ltd and Sharmin Fashion Ltd recently received platinum certificates, while AM Design Ltd received gold certificates. A green factory can help reduce energy consumption by 40% and water use by more than 30%. It also emits less carbon, ensuring environmental protection.Faruque Hassan, president of the BGMEA, stated that the country’s 500 more factories are in line to get certified by the leeds. Bangladesh now boasts the most green factories in the world, and the number is expanding, according to Mohiuddin Rubel, Director, BGMEA. He also stated that the apparel industry is working toward a more sustainable and environmentally friendly infrastructure.LEED Certification status based on April 2022- Epyllion Knitwears Ltd – HW Unit receives LEED(Gold) by USGBC, according to BGMEA. Recertification is achieved by Tarasima Apparels Ltd and Remi Holdings Ltd. (Platinum). Dhaka has the most green factories, followed by Gazipur, Chattogram, and Narayanganj. Comilla Habiganj, Savar The US Green Building Council (USGBC) recently awarded BGMEA the 2021 USGBC Leadership Award for green activities in the garment industry.
