For Spring/Summer 2025, lilac and lavender emerge as a key colour palette to watch, signalling a shift toward refined optimism and calm sophistication. This versatile hue aligns with the season’s call for colours that imply a sense of hopefulness and gentle resilience. Lilac’s soft yet striking aesthetic pairs effortlessly with a spectrum of pastels, creating harmonious colour stories that speak of consumer’s desire for both beauty and balance.

As designers and brands explore the potential of lilac, we see it being used both as a standalone shade making a statement as well as an accent colour within broader palettes. This introduces a refreshing duality of sophistication and playfulness, that appeals to both younger demographics seeking freshness and more established consumer choices that crave understated elegance.

The runways saw Ann Demeulemeester showcasing a striking look with a full-length lilac chiffon skirt in a sheer finish, paired with a structured black top featuring intricate white lace collar and cuffs. This was layered under a dark blue denim jacket creating an ensemble that blends softness with edgy sophistication. Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood took a fresh approach, presenting a two-tone lilac shirt layered under a light grey blazer, paired with matching paper-bag waist trousers – a look that captured a sense of relaxed refinement, balancing bold colours with classic tailoring.

Issey Miyake added an elegant touch with a flowing duster-style coat in lilac, layered over a sleek black pantsuit, while Florentina Leitner embodied a playful aesthetic with a voluminous pale lilac balloon skirt paired with a casual black T-shirt that were paired with silver sneakers. The look was completed with a green hood, injecting a hint of sporty ease into the otherwise whimsical look.

From a market perspective, lilac aligns with a consumer mindset that seeks refuge in gentle, uplifting shades amidst global uncertainties. In retail, this hue can serve as a central theme for collections aimed at embodying calm and assurance. In this sense, Lilac, therefore, is not only a seasonal trend but also a strategic choice that meets consumer demand for accessible luxury that feels relevant for Spring/Summer 2025 season.
