Meghna Group has partnered with Turkey’s Tam Hangers to establish Tam Hangers Bangladesh Limited, aiming to produce plastic garment hangers for export. Tam Hangers holds a 51% stake, while Meghna Group holds 49%.

On October 4, a new plant in Mirzapur, Tangail, with 16 machines, started trial production. The factory could produce 30,000 hangers a day.

With 500 jobs to be created and a $7.5 million investment, the factory intends to grow to 40 machines, emphasizing sustainable production by reusing old hangers and solar energy. Global businesses like Marks & Spencer and H&M rely on Tam Hangers as a major supplier.

Bangladesh’s hanger exports earned $30 million last year, and foreign investment is expected to boost this figure. The initiative aligns with global trends towards recycling and decarburization, positioning Bangladesh as a potential hub for garment accessories in the worldwide market.

Tam Hangers is a leading supplier of hangers to global brands and operates in over 50 countries, including the UK, China, Germany, Italy, India, and Australia.

Around 1,800 packaging and accessory manufacturing facilities, mostly in Gazipur, Narayanganj, and Tangail, are listed by the Bangladesh Garments Accessories and Packaging Manufacturers and Exporters Association.

During the 2022–2023 fiscal year, these manufacturers produced over 40 different product categories, such as buttons, plastic hangers, polybags, labels, zippers, and thread, and they earned the nation roughly $8.22 billion (deemed and direct) in revenues, of which nearly $1 billion came from direct exports.
