Introduction & Brief History

The history of the beauty industry is as colorful and diverse and contrasted as the shades of your nail polishes or lipsticks in your makeup kit. Historians can trace the use of cosmetics and beauty products back to 4000 BC.

Also, the Egyptians in ancient times used kohl (kajal) to create dramatic eyes. In the early times of beauty and cosmetics, people only relied upon natural produce and ingredients to both take care of their skin and use as makeup. Produce, such as, berries, charcoal, bugs were heavily used to create variety of colors, and also each produce could be used for various purposes. Early beauty also consisted of locally sourcing natural ingredients to be used as exfoliates and pastes. This method of natural ingredients usage has been an ongoing trend throughout the history of the beauty industry.
Today, the worldwide beauty industry is just as prone to constant changes and growth like any other. Even though that the ongoing pandemic did take a massive toll on the industry, it is currently valued at $532 billion. The beauty industry has always been in the limelight for e-Commerce innovation and reinvention.

Starting from AI cosmetics solution, personalized skincare to hygienic beauty, the retailers of this industry are frequently trying to enhance their customer satisfaction and experience. As the pandemic has affected the human race in number of ways, it is no exception for this particular industry as well. This is why you need to be aware of the ongoing trends to get an idea as to how much impact it is going to have on the industry in the near future, or in the long run, for that matter. Instead of dwelling upon everything that should have or could have been done in 2020, let us choose to focus on what is to be done in the years to come. This means looking forward to the infinitude of exciting new makeup, skincare and hair trends that are set to churn up the industry and maybe even our daily routines.

Beauty Market & The Statistics

Nielsen, a market research company conducted a survey which showed findings that the beauty aisles had finally began to reflect diversity in America. The rate at which the number of color ranges has grown in the country is immensely vast. The number of particular color ranges has grown seven times as fast as product lines as a whole. In the meantime, the number of unique shades of foundation made and sold had grown three times as fast. The need to keep one’s individuality and uniqueness intact, the demand for vast diversity of colors reflect upon the consumers seeking products, the need to match the shade of one’s complexion, for example. The companies and lines embracing inclusive styles and methods of business see their efforts to be rewarded in their annual revenue according to data collected by Global Cosmetic Industry.

Maintenance of Skin, Hair & Hygiene

Due to the pandemic, the access to our go-to dermatologists and facial masseuses was little to none. Leading us to learn and understand skin care that can be maintained safely at home. There are numbers of lines that produce sheet masks, moisturizers, cleansers and exfoliating scrubs which can be easily delivered at home for you to take care of yourself. The lines try their best to maintain proper chemical inclusion and hygiene to stay in the market for a life long time. For example, in skin care routine, it is unnecessary for fragrance to be present in the product. If it has smell, be sure that there are unnecessary chemicals used which may harm your skin in the long run.

CeraVe is one of the leading drug store brands for skin care products that specializes their products to have no sort of fragrance and stresses upon including one of the most important chemicals for any skin type called Niacinamide.  Therefore, it is best to be aware of the individual necessities to get the right products for your fragile skin.
Taking care of your hair scalp can be put under the category of skin care as well. To keep the scalp healthy and less flaky, you must firstly wash your hair with just water everyday at least once. To pump up the matter, there are various hair products being made and launched to keep the hair satin silky every now and then. Products like hair paste packs, hair serum, hair oil, hair mousse, and not to mention, hair shampoos and conditioners, are in high demand by the consumers this time around.

Cosmetics & Make-up

The basic difference between makeup and cosmetics is that makeup is a cosmetic but not all cosmetics are makeup!

Cosmetics are often used to describe the variety of items to use for body and face in the beauty market. We have already discussed and covered most of the cosmetics like cleansers, moisturizers, etc in the previous topic above. So, let us focus more on the makeup sector in this one.

Makeup is usually and mostly used to alter, enhance or highlight the appearance of the face or the body. It also includes subcategories of different makeup applications, such as blush, lipstick, concealer, highlighter, foundation and so on. Minerals from nature is usually included in mineral makeups to create products like concealers or highlighters, which is not often performed when it comes to natural cosmetics such as moisturizer or toner. For the people who use makeup on a daily basis also require to own a makeup removing item and moisturizers, which are very much essential to keep the skin healthy and glowing.

Sustainable Packaging

Brands always pay attention to their packaging besides being concerned about the procurement and processing of their ingredients for the products. The main goal of every brand is to commit to keep their packaging eco friendly and to cut down on plastic waste and pollution to maintain healthier enviorenment alongside our healthy skin.

Sustainability has become a keyword in the world of beauty and skin care. To keep away the one time plastic usage, it is essential to implement sustainable alternatives. To keep the packaging both attractive and safe for the environment, glass or paper based packaging can be implemented by the brands. Henceforth, you must consider using reusable objects and provide products from sustainable brands if you want to follow the 2021 beauty industry trends.
Even though makeup can be perceived as an art, it is not that hard of a job. Anyone can easily put a little makeup on, as sometimes it may help boost confidence for many. Rather than using large amount of makeup, a little bit can go a long way. It should be worn lightly so as to avoid harmful effects and toxicity. We are all unique in our own individual ways, and so whatever you may put on your skin for whatever reason it maybe, just make sure to read and check the ingredients label first, or watch some helpful reviews online to get the correct product for your specific type of skin. As we are all aware of the saying, “Precaution is better than cure”.
