Prior to Wimbledon, AMC, Andy Murray’s tennis gear label and Castore, the sportswear business in which Murray has an equity holding, released a new performance-focused ‘Championship Collection.’
Murray’s kit for the tournament, which is billed as “technically built, classically designed and ready to perform on the grandest stage of tennis,” can be found in the AMC Championship Collection. For the match, Murray will be sporting a distinctive jacquard-knitted polo with a classic tennis silhouette that is meant to keep sportsmen comfortable and focused while playing. The shirt is also designed to move with the wearer and has a zipper instead of a button placket.
To maximise reach and movement while playing, the technical shorts are also manufactured from the same fabric as the polo. They have an elasticated waistband with drawcord adjustment and extra deep pockets for storing tennis balls while playing. While the training kit includes “next-level tennis basics,” its primary purpose is to improve an athlete’s performance while they are working out. This comprises a layer with a quarter-zip closure for use during warmups and cooldowns as well as training T-shirts made from materials with a high degree of stretch and breathability that include a pattern that was inspired by the court markings at centre court.
The co-founder of Castore, Tom Beahon, issued the following comment regarding the AMC brand: “The AMC brand reaches far beyond the traditional athlete/sportswear brand boundaries. We are both passionate about tennis and want to see significant change brought to the way the sport is portrayed in the UK. The Championship Collection reintroduces our innovative approach to tennis apparel, which was motivated by Andy Murray’s unbridled enthusiasm for the game as well as the illustrious status of the Championship.
